For over 30 years I have been just passing by the old abandoned Redman house in Watsonville, California, and for the last couple of years had my eye on it to take some photos. The question in my mind was what light and atmosphere did I want to create for such a beautiful old house.
Driving by it daily I would consider light, sky and angles to take shots, and then on this overcast day, just before a storm was to come in I noticed that the light and sky were just right. One thing I have learned through the years is if the conditions are right and I see a shot, I hit the brakes and pull over, because it may be years if ever, before I see these conditions again. This is also why I have my camera and tripod with me at all times.
During processing I decided to go with black and white for these HDR photos to give it the old, haunted look . Camera settings for the 3 shots were, ISO 50, Lens set to 17 mm, F/16 shutter time 1/50 to 0.3 second exposure.
